Wrestling Blue Jays Place Third at DeSmet Holiday Tournament

Competing at the DeSmet Holiday Tournament December 27 and 28, the Washington varsity wrestling squad registered a third-place team finish.

Josh Ohm’s Blue Jays recorded a team score of 206.5. Ft. Zumwalt North claimed the team title with 233.5 points. Marquette was second with 228.5 points.
DeSmet finished in fourth place followed by Fox, McCluer North, Hancock, Francis Howell North, Hazelwood Central, North County, Sumner, Hazelwood East, Westminster, Valley Catholic, Webster Groves and DeSmet JV.

Ten of the Blue Jays' 14 wrestlers were medalists.

Tate Hendricks (106 pounds) took second place, winning three matches in the tournament. He lot to DeSmet’s Colton King in the finals.

Chris Griesenauer (160) claimed second place with five victories. He lost to DeSmet’s Cory Peterson in the finals.

Dana Cates (138) claimed fourth-place honors, winning our matches. He lost a 10-9 decision in the third-place match to Fox’s Matthew Florek.

Louis Obermark (145) captured fourth-place honors with four victories. He lost to Ft. Zumwalt North’s Derick Buda-Smith in the third-place match.

Jack Carico (170) took fourth place with four victories. He lost to North County’s Cole Cresswell in the third-place match.

Collin Muller (182) claimed fourth place with four victories. He lost a 4-2 decision to Hazelwood Central’s William Peebles in the third-place match.

Michael Boehlein (195) placed fourth with four victories. He lost to Hancock’s Davonte Trotter in the third-place match.

Tommy Kelpe (126) took fifth-place honors, winning five matches. He defeated Westminster’s Clayton Perona by a 15-5 major decision in the fifth-place match.

Mia Reed (113) placed sixth, losing to Ft. Zumwalt North’s Deven Kulp in the fifth-place match.

Logan Kuhn (285) finished in sixth place, falling to Marquette’s Zach Worley in the fifth-place match.

Ben Griffen (120) took seventh place, winning two matches overall. He pinned Hazelwood East’s Dorian Smith in the seventh-place match.

Andrew Inman (220) placed seventh with two wins.

Tyler Ramsey (152) finished in ninth place, pinning Fox’s Shayden Stranger.

James Johnson (132) placed 10th with one victory.
